What is Craniosacral Therapy?
What is biodynamic craniosacral therapy?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, often abbreviated as CST, is a hands-on therapy that tunes in to the rhythms of the body. Through a heart centred and caring approach, light touch enables the therapist to identify subtle changes in the body and areas of stress or tension. The therapeutic interactions helps to release them in a supportive and comfortable way. As well as getting relief of physical pain clients often experience a sense of calm and well-being. There can often be a reduction in challenging emotions such as anger.
The aim is to enhance the body’s natural ability to self-regulate and heal. CST supports your body’s ability to balance and heal itself and build underlying energy.
Because it is so gentle and non-invasive, CST is suitable for everyone.

Physical Aches & Pains
Back & neck pain, headaches, joint pain, muscle strains/spasms and nerve pain are all issues that are frequently seen. Often the cause of the problem isn’t at the site of pain and treating the whole body can restore balance and reduce pain. Biodynamic cranial sacral therapy can support the body with injuries and acute pain and has also been shown to be effective in improving chronic pain.
Pregnancy & Babies
PREGNANCY:
Pregnancy can be full of wonder and excitement, but can also be challenging. Many changes occur in the body and can produce a variety of conditions such as circulatory problems, cramps, digestive problems as well as back and joint pain.
ANTE NATAL & POST-PREGNANCY:
The period just before and after the birth is one of immense change. Sometimes during the 3rd trimester, the effects of carrying a baby and its surrounding fluids can overload the body and cause mechanical strains for both mother and baby.
BIRTH:
Baby is designed to cope with the stresses and strains to which it is subjected in the process of birth, sometimes things don’t go smoothly and it can be a challenging time for the mother and baby. Most of the time they adapt well to their new environment but sometimes can suffer the after-effects of a difficult birth process. Sometimes at this time, there is a lot of focus on the baby and I feel it is important to ensure the wellbeing of the mother as well as the baby. If they are clearly in discomfort and yet your Neo-natal specialist finds nothing wrong it may be worth exploring if a gentle craniosacral treatment can help to sooth and relax your baby.
Trauma
The past decade has seen a much-needed increase into the research and subsequent understanding of both simple and complex trauma. In his book ‘The Body Keeps the Score’, Bessel Van der Kolk recommends craniosacral therapy as part of a supported treatment plan to help with the processing of trauma. When an environment and feeling of safety is created in a therapeutic environment the body can be enabled to release the trauma and a healing process can begin to unfold. I have worked with clients with varying degrees of trauma from both childhood and adulthood and found that the treatments have helped process trauma and also support the body with the effects of it.
Stress, Anxiety & Insomnia
It feels more people than ever are feeling over stressed and anxious. We often go through phases in life that are more stressful than others and it can be helpful to have support during these times. Biodynamic cranial sacral therapy can support the autonomic nervous system, improving regulation and reducing stress and anxiety.
You are always welcome to bring a friend for support if you feel it will help you feel relaxed and able to come to the treatment. Treatment can be done seated if lying feels too vulnerable and I am always happy to liaise with other medical professionals regarding your care.
The Whole Family
INFANTS & CHILDHOOD:
Children, by nature have more bumps, knocks and falls than most adults. Most of the time they carry on with no ill effects but sometimes the pain doesn’t go and a compensation pattern can be set up in their body.
Their bodies are also subject to rapid growth periods and their nervous systems to the stresses of the fast pace of modern living.
Children can show problems in different ways to adults and they are often less able to explain them. For example, rather than headaches they can get tummy aches. It’s important to consider past trauma, environmental factors, family history and body stresses
AGING:
Different stages of life can place varying demands on us both physically and emotionally. As we age we experience changes to the body structures/tissues like reduction in muscle mass and stiffness in joints. We also accumulate the amount that we have responded to and experienced emotionally like changes in work, parenting, menopause, midlife to retirement, love, loss and grief.
Craniosacral therapy can support both the body to heal from the past to reduced stress and to optimise its functioning and heal.
General Well-being
Sometimes in life, we feel like we could do with a bit of support to live at our optimum. Craniosacral therapy supports the body and systems to function at their optimum. Every day we encounter low-level stressors such as a trip, a knock, too much time at the computer or rushing around. Craniosacral therapy can support the body to heal from these and help prevent an accumulation which may lead to ill health.
Meet Kerry
Experienced therapist offering holistic and integrated therapy. 25 years dedicated to healing.
From the beginning of my time studying physiotherapy at university I felt a strong sense that there was more to health and healthcare than the traditional western medical model. This sense was clarified by the more patients I saw, especially those with chronic (long-term) or more complex problems.
Through the past 25 years, I’ve been on a path to further understand the human body, wellbeing and health. I have always had a keen insight into the evolving landscape of healthcare and deeply value the importance of acknowledging the advances of treatment in the conventional medical medicine as well as acknowledging the effects of it.
My journey led me to discover Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy - a scientifically supported approach that empowers the body's inherent ability to heal. This gentle yet powerful therapy has become the mainstay of my practice. Through working as a Biodynamic Caranio practitioner I can offer the care and support to connect to health and wellbeing essential for healing.
On a personal note, being a parent to my two children has provided me with valuable insights into the joys and challenges of parenthood, as well as an understanding of the struggles faced by parents and children in today's world.
